Community Arts Director - Alan Hendry

About Alan

Alan is a community arts director with over 30 years experience within the South Australian community theatre sector.


Alan has worked with many local companies as a performer, director and writer of theatre including The Elizabeth Repertory Company, Northern Light Theatre, South Australian Writers Theatre, Carnivale Productions, Nonsuch Theatre, Spotlight Theatre Company.


Alan has also worked extensively (10 years) in community services for the older person.


In 2011 Alan founded Vintage Theatre Co-op a community based program which aims to enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of the older person through providing accessible opportunities to  engage in the performing arts (theatre). The program recently (2017) performed a sellout Adelaide Fringe season of 'Encounters' a locally written and produced theatre piece which was developed through the programs "Don't Act Your Age" workshops.


In 2016 Alan completed his qualifications as an Arts Psychotherapist through the IKON Institute with the intention of developing new workshops which utilise the therapeutic and healing qualities of Art and Drama to assist the older person gain new insights into how to improve their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
